Serenoa Repens
What is Serenoa repens?
Serenoa repens, or Saw Palmetto, is a dwarf palm that grows spontaneously in coastal areas with a subtropical climate, especially in the USA (Florida). It produces black-reddish berries rich in fatty acids and phytosterols.
Where does it come from?
The use of Serenoa repens comes from America, where the Native Americans used it for the well-being of the urinary and reproductive systems. The use of the berries as a tonicwas later adopted by the colonists. The first reports in the literature of its use for well-being of the urinary tract date back to the early 20th century.
Prostate
The prostate is a gland belonging to the male urogenital system.
It is located just below the bladder, in front of the rectum and behind the pubic symphysis.
It has a dimension and shape similar to a chestnut, with a base at the top and an apex at the bottom.

It also contributes to the physiology of the urinary system. Its muscular structures allow it to act as a “collar” at the base of the bladder, which contributes to the regulation of urine flow and continence.
